DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday alleged that the incumbent government is not showing any tolerance to the opposition and their opinions.

The government is trying to uproot them from the country, he added.

The BNP leader further alleged that the ruling Awami League (AL) is trying to establish one-party politics in the country.

Mirza Fakhrul made the allegations in a statement issued in the afternoon criticising the attacks by Chhatra League, Jubo League and AL leaders and activists on BNP and Chhatra Dal leaders and activists at Bakshibazar in city on Wednesday and the attacks on BNP offices in Kalmakanda and Durgapur upazilas of Netrokona district.

He also said the government wants a state where only the principles of AL will be practiced instead of multi-party democracy and the ruling party is using the law enforcers in detaining the opposition leaders and activists.

He also demanded immediate release of three BNP leaders detained from Durgapur and arrest of the persons involved with the vandalism of BNP offices in Kalmakanda and Durgapur upazilas.
