BNP Standing Committee Member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan today criticized the Awami League government, saying its 15-year rule has severely weakened Bangladesh’s economy.
“Recently, a highly renowned UK newspaper reported that 234 billion US dollars have been laundered from Bangladesh over the last 15 years. This is not a small amount. That money could have been used to build 100 Padma Bridges,” Moyeen Khan said.
He made the remarks while addressing a discussion as the chief guest at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Hall of the National Press Club. The event was organized by the Nationalist Bank-Insurance Professionals’ Council.
The senior BNP leader also stressed that democracy is not the ultimate goal. “We must remember that democracy is not our final objective. Democracy is a mechanism. Through it, we aim to improve the living standards of Bangladesh’s 180 million people; that is our main goal,” he said.
He said, “We want to create a social system where millions of people, regardless of caste, creed, or religion, can live in peace.”
The discussion was presided over by M Wahiduzzaman, President of the Nationalist Bank-Insurance Professionals’ Council. BNP leaders from various organizations were also present.
