Khaleda’s Gazipur rally denied permission

GAZIPUR: The local administration has refused the BNP chief Khaleda Zia to hold a rally in Gazipur on December 27.

The Deputy Commissioner of the district, Mohammad Nurul Islam, said that no permission was granted to hold a rally in Gazipur for BNP.

Moreover, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of the ruling Awami League, has not sought any permission yet to hold a meeting at the venue, local administration sources said.

However, the Bhawal Badre Alam Government College authority has already given permission to BNP to use its field for the rally purpose.

The Government Intelligence sources said that the permission process of the college authority was not valid. The college authority did not follow the proper code of conduct for the allowance, they added.

The college Principal, Haider Ahmed Naser, gave the permission without the authorization of the deputy commissioner, which is against the proper commandment, sources said.

Moreover, Gazipur Police Superintendent Mohammad Harunur Rashid denied the permission of the rally in advance without approval of the deputy commissioner which led the situation more crucial, they added.

Local BNP leaders have also expressed their firm determination to arrange the rally at any cost and continued their mass campaign for the rally.

On the other hand, local unit of BCL vowed to thwart the BNP's December 27 rally and they also called for a protest rally to be held at the same venue at the same time.

Tension is running high in Gazipur following the dismantling of the podium as both the parties are being prepared to hold rally at the same venue.
