DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) led 20-party alliance called a dawn to dusk shutdown across the country on Monday.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir confirmed the matter to banglanews after a meeting with the secretary generals of 20-party in city’s Gulshan area on Saturday evening.
According to the party sources, the hartal is called protesting the restrictions on Gazipur rally where BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia was scheduled to address.
The shutdown is also imposed protesting the arrest of BNP standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy and other leaders and activists of 20-party alliance and on a demand of releasing them.
