DHAKA: Police detained Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, president of BNP's youth wing Jubo Dal, from his residence at Lalmatia in the city Saturday night.

In a joint drive, Detective Branch of police and Mohammadpur Thana picked up Alal around 11:30am and later took him to the thana.

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Media Wing member Shamsusddin Didar confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Alal’s youngest son Arafat Abdullah told banglanews that police and plainclothes DB police raided their home around 11:00am and picked up his father.

In reply to query about cause of detention, the lawmen told the family members that as per order of higher authorities concerned, he has been held 

Alal was on bail in all cases filed against him, claimed the son.

Mohammadpur Thana Sub-Inspector (SI) Kamal Shaha said Alal was detained apprehending sabotage activities and taken to the thana. 

He was being interrogated there, the SI added.

Jubo Dal executive committee member Giasuddin Mamun told banglanews that Alal might have been held centering Monday’s hartal.

He may be shown arrested in the case related to Bakshibazar clash in the city on December 24, Mamun added.
