DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Sunday issued an arrest warrant against BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman in a defamation case filed for calling Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujubur Rahman a ‘Razakar’.
Dhaka district Chhatra League assistant General secretary Abdul Aziz lodged the lawsuit with Dhaka’s Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in the morning.
Taking the defamation allegation into cognizance under sections no 499 and 500 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, Senior Judicial Magistrate Masud Parvez handed down the order after the hearing.
The court also asked law enforcers to submit report on execution of its order on February 5, 2015.
On December 15, Tarique Rahman, the elder son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, said Sheikh Mujib was a “Razakar”, “friend of Pakistan”.
Tarique was addressing a discussion program on Victory Day, arranged by local BNP unit, at Atrium Auditorium of East London.
Since then, Tarique was sued in 44 cases on same charge across the country. Arrest warrant has been issued in most of the cases.
