HABIGANJ: At least 30 people, including Habiganj Sadar Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC), were injured in a clash held between local BNP men and police on Sunday.
Sources told banglanews that the BNP men locked into the clash with the law enforcers following a district court sent the Habiganj Municipality Mayor GK Gaus, also the general secretary of district BNP, to jail at noon.
At least 10 vehicles, including eight battery-run auto-rickshaws and a microbus along with a private car were vandalized at that time.
Not only that according to the sources, Gonopurto Bhaban and Zila Parishad Rest House were also vandalized during the clash.
Police, however, detained five Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal leaders and activists following the clash, they added. While, OC Nazim has been sent to the Habiganj Sadar Adhunik Hospital.
Confirming the matter, police said that the clash started after a court here sent Habiganj Municipality Mayor GK Gaus, also a district BNP leader, to jail, after surrendering in a case of former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria murder.
“BNP men, protesting the order, brought out a procession from the court premises in the noon,” he added. Their leaders and activists, at that time, attacked on Gonopurto Bhaban and Zila Parishad Rest House and vandalized a few vehicles on the road.”
On the other hand, locals said that at least 30 round tear cells were fired at that time.
