BNP calls half-day hartal for Tuesday in Sylhet

SYLHET: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has called a half-day hartal for Tuesday in Sylhet protesting city BNP convener Dr Shahriar Hossain Chowdhury’s detention.

District joint convener Dilder Hossain Selim made the strike announcement at a rally, held at Judge Court area in the city, Monday morning, sources added.

Dilder, at that time, alleged that the law enforcers held their leader without any reason.

“We are going to observe the hartal protesting Shahriar’s detention,” he added.

Among others, BNP leaders Abul Kaher Chowdhury Shamim, Advocate Abdul Gaffar, Badruzzaman Selim and Ali Ahmed, were also present at the rally.

Earlier, Kotwali Model Thana police held city BNP unit Convener Shahriar along with two activists of its student wing, Chhatra Dal, from Sylhet’s Chowhatta Point area.

On the other hand, the dawn-to-dusk countrywide hartal called by the BNP-led 20 party alliance, in protest of the denial of giving permission to hold rally in Gazipur, is underway across the country amid sporadic incidents.
