HABIGANJ: A court here on Tuesday sent Sylhet City Corporation mayor Ariful Haq Chowdhury to jail after his surrender in former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria murder case.

Sources told banglanews that Habiganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Rokeya Akter passed the order at noon.

Earlier, mayor Arif surrendered before the Court around 11:40am, sources added.

However, Sylhet city mayor surrendered to the court as it issued an arrest warrant against 11 people, including him on December 21.

BNP leader Harris Chowdhury and Habiganj Municipality mayor GK Gaus, among others, are also in the list of warrant.

On January 27, 2005, four people, including Kibria, were killed in a grenade attack while addressing a rally in Habiganj.

Moreover, GK Gaus is also in prison in connection with the case of Shah AMS Kibria killing.
