Shibir bites off police

BARISAL: An activist of Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, bit off a member of special branch of police on Wednesday morning as he obstructed picketing during hartal.

Protesting death penalty of Jamaat’s assistant secretary general ATM Azharul Islam, the party is observing day long hartal across the country.

A group of Shibir men marched with a procession in support of hartal and set fire on road pouring petrol in front of VIP gate of Bandaraod of the district town around 6:30am.

Being obstructed by Joynal Abedin, Member of City Special Brunch of Police, Shibir men attacked and assaulted him. At one stage, a Shibir man bit off his (Joynal) hand and fled the spot witnessing more police officials’ presence.

Injured Joynal Abedin confirmed the matter to banglanews.
