DHAKA: The first day of 2-day hartal of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is underway amid sporadic violence Wednesday.
Hartal supporters set fire to a covered van from a sudden procession at capital’s Gendaria at 9:15am and fled the scene.
Picketers vandalized few vehicles at Rayerbagh area of Jatrabari and Pallabi and blasted some cocktails.
In Gazipur, the law enforcers, between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, detained some 25 Jamaat men from different parts of the city.
Besides, police, in the morning, fired some 11 round of bullets after hartal-supporters brought out a procession at Tongi College Gate area.
Jamaat called the hartal by protesting International Crimes Tribunal’s death penalty to party’s assistant secretary general ATM Azharul Islam.
