BNP vows to stay on street on Jan 5

DHAKA: BNP standing committee member Dr Abdul Moin Khan on Friday categorically said that the BNP-led 20-party leaders and activists will stay on street even if they do not get permission for holding rally.

He made the observation after placing floral wreaths to Zia’s grave at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in city marking the 36th founding anniversary of Chhatra Dal in the morning.

Dr Moin said, “Awami League killed democracy through a farcical general election on January 5 last year. We want to observe the day as “Democracy Killing Day”. We already have sought permission to the authority for holding rally in Dhaka though we are yet to be permitted.”

“BNP-led 20-party will stay on the street even if we do not get permission,” he added.

He also expected that Chhatra Dal will play a vital role like earlier times.

The senior BNP leader added, “The beauty of democracy lies in finding solutions through talks. BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has presented specific proposals. BNP will realise people’s rights through movements if these proposals are not received.”

BNP organizing secretary Fazlul Haque Milon, education affairs secretary Khairul Kabir Khokon, former general secretary of Chhatra Dal Amirul Islam Alim, current president Rajib Ahsan and general secretary Akramul Hasan were, among others, present here.
