14 vehicles torched in city

DHAKA: At least 14 buses were torched in different areas of the city on Sunday ahead of January 5 political programs and counter programs of BNP-led 20-party alliance and ruling Awami League.

At Kamalapur, miscreants torched two buses in Titipara area around 8:20pm.

Confirming the matter, fire service headquarters duty officer Nilufar Yasmin said fire fighting unit rushed to the spot and doused the blaze.

At Uttara, a bus was torched by miscreants around 7:45pm in sector no 5.

In Jahangirnagar University, the leaders and activists of university unit Chhatra Dal torched a bus on Dhaka-Aricha highway in the university gate near Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall in the evening.

In Gazipur, two buses were torched in Shibbari and Chandina area around 4:30pm. Gazipur fire service deputy assistant director Aktaruzzaman Liton confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Besides, in Postogola area, a bus was torched by miscreants in front of Abdullah filling station around 7:00pm.

In Moghbazar, allegedly some Chhatra Shibir leaders, a student wing of Bangladesh Jammat-e-Islami, torched a bus in Chaurasta Mor around 7:00pm.

Ramna Thana duty officer confirmed the matter.

At Azimpur, miscreants torched a bus pouring petrol in it around 6:30pm.

Fire service headquarters operator M Mustafa confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Sources said, the Chhatra Shibir activists also blasted three cocktails in the area.

In Gulistan, a bus was torched in front of Golap Shah Mazar around 6:30pm, said fire service control room duty officer Vajen Kumar Sarkar confirmed the matter.

In Kuril area, a bus of Supravat Paribahan was torched around 5:30pm, fire service headquarters telephone operator Ziaur Rahman said two fire fighters units rushed to the spot.

In Gandaria, another bus of Malancha Paribahan was torched by miscreants in front of Dayaganj Jahangir Clinic around 4:00pm.

Sub-inspector (SI) Sajib Bala of Gandaria Thana confirmed the matter to banglanews.

On information, fire service team rushed in and doused the fire.

Apart from this, two other buses were torched in city’s Tejgaon area around 3:30pm and Purana Paltan around 1:40pm.
