RAJSHAHI: An activist of Jamaat-e-Islami was detained on allegation of setting fire to Rajshahi Awami League office early Monday.

Quoting witnesses, Officer-in-Charge of Boalia Thana Nur Hossain Khandakar said a group of masked miscreants set fire to the office after Fazr prayer and blasted a cocktail.

Locals doused the fire before fire fighters rushed to the spot and a Jamaat man was detained suspecting his involvement, he added.

Later, Rajshahi City Police Commissioner M Shamsuddin, deputy police commissioner Tanvir Haider and other high officials of police visited the spot and ordered to arrest involved persons.
