NATORE: District unit BNP called dawn-to-dusk hartal for Tuesday over the killing of two people in Monday’s clash between activists of ruling Awami League and BNP in Tebaria area.
The deceased were identified as Raihan, son of Mithun, Atrai Upazila of Naogaon and Rakibul, son of Chan Mia of north Tebaria
Officer-in-charge (OC) Faridul Islam of Natore Sadar Thana confirmed the matter.
He said leaders and activists of district AL and BNP were preparing to bring out procession in Tebaria area of the town around 10:30am to mark ‘Victory Day of Democracy’ and ‘Democracy Killing Day’ respectively.
At one stage, both the groups locked into chase and counter chase, trade bullets, hurling brick chips, leaving scores of people, including Rakib and Raihan, injured, he added.
Rakib and Raihan, sustained bullet injuries, were whisked off to Natore Sadar Hospital where duty doctor declared them dead.
The bodies were sent to morgue for autopsy.
District BNP general secretary Aminur Huq claimed that the duo was BNP activists.
The clash ensued in the area around 10:30am, leaving two people shot dead and scores injured.
Later, the district BNP declared the hartal for Tuesday protesting the killing.
