DHAKA: Law enforcement agencies in overnight drives detained 416 people from 12 different districts across the country on Monday to avoid possible sabotage ahead of BNP’s Monday rally.
Most of the detainees are leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its key ally Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

In Jessore, police detained 81 people, including 20 BNP and 19 Jamaat activists, from eight upazilas of the district.
Jessore district police Assistant Superintendent of police (ASP) Reshma Sharmin confirmed the matter.
In Cox’s Bazar, 14 BNP-Jamaat men detained from Cox’s Bazar Sadar, Ramu, Ukhia, Chakaria, Kutubdia and Maheshkhali upazila, said Cox’s Bazar SP Shyamal Kumar Nath.
In Manikganj, police rounded up 25 BNP activists from six upazilas.
Sub-inspector Abdul Baten of district police special branch confirmed the matter.
In Meherpur, police detained 10 BNP activists from Gagni and Mujibnagar upazilas, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gagni Thana Riazul Islam and OC Rabiul Islam of Mujibnagar Thana.
In Noakhali, 16 BNP activists were detained from several areas of the districts.
District SP Ilias Sharif confirmed the matter to banglanews.
In Kushtia, police detained 23 BNP and Jamaat men from several areas, district additional SP Abu Bakar Siddique said.
In Chandpur, 21 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat detained from the district.
Chandpur SP M Amir Jafar confirmed the matter.
In Brahmanbaria, police detained 26 BNP activists following a clash with police, said Sadar Model Thana assistant SP Tapash Ranjan Ghose.
In Pabna, when contacted, District assistant SP Siddique Rahman said 54 people were held from 11 thanas suspicious of create sabotage in the areas.
In Sunamganj, the law enforcers detained 32 BNP-Jamaat men from the district, District SP M Harun ur Rashid said.
In Bogra, confirming the matter, District ASP Gaziur Rahman said police, in 24-hour’s drives, arrested 93 accused in several cases.
In Comilla, police detained 21 people including 20 BNP men and another Shibir man from the district.
