DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said they should break the ‘prison’ uttering national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s verse ‘boot and break the locks of all prisons’.
The BNP leader said at a program, arranged by several professional organizations, at the National Press Club on Monday noon.
He said that the incumbent government is establishing a one-party state in line with 1975 wearing the mask of democracy.
Fakhrul added: “Many people have been shot dead in different places across the country.”
The government has snatched the freedom of judiciary. They should be ousted from power to save freedom and sovereignty, he commented.
According to the BNP leader, the national election on January 5 was merely a farce.
Few people participated in the election from 1973, he added.
Blaming the incumbent government, the BNP leader further said that they want to restore democracy and people’s right to vote.
