CHITTAGONG: Police held 70 more activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami in the port city Chittagong on Monday following clashes.
The detainees include Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chittagong unit president Aslam Chowdhury and Chittagong district (south) unit vice-president Enamul Haque at 6:50pm on the day.
Kotowali Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Mohiuddin Selim told banglanews that sores of BNP-Jamaat activists took shelter at ‘Yasmin Palace’ building in the port city after clashes with police.
Later, police nabbed 70 people and trying to hold more, the OC added.
According to him, police are continuing a search drive to hold more people as over one hundred BNP-Jammat activists are staying at the place.
Earlier, police detained 50 activists following the clashes during a rally organized by BNP-led alliance to mark ‘Democracy Killing Day’ in front of the party office.
