Prove govtÔÇÖs failure: Hanif to Khaleda

DHAKA: The ruling Awami League asked opposition leader Begum Khaleda Zia to prove the government’s failures she alleged Thursday in demanding that it quit.

“In which sectors the government has failed to run has to be proved by Khaleda Zia with evidences,” said Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif at an extended meeting of Dhaka Metropolitan Awami League at the party central office Friday.

Her Thursday’s comment is ‘indecorous’, he said in the rebuttal.

Opposition leader Begum Khaleda Zia, at the program of 30th anniversary of Swecchasebak Dal Thursday, said, “The government should quit for its inefficiencies in running the country.”

Hanif noted that traffic jam and power crunch are not the creation of Awami League. “Traffic jam is an outcome of population growth while power crisis because of BNP,” he said.

“Not a single megawatt of power could BNP generate during their five-year tenure,” he added.

Hanif said the government is working for country’s development as well as peoples’ betterment though it has been facing difficulties in every stage to run the country.

“Khaleda Zia is criticizing government’s development activities as she has no accountability to the people,” said Hanif.

He urged the party leaders and activists to stand united to give a fit reply to such type of “criticism and conspiracy”.

Metropolitan leaders also spoke at the meeting with acting President of Dhaka Metropolitan Awami League M Aziz in the chair.
