War crimes investigators start probe about Golam Azam

BRAHMANBARIA: The investigation team of the International Crimes Tribunal Monday started investigation here about suspects for crimes against humanity during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, including former Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Golam Azam.

The investigators recorded the statements of some witnesses.

They also visited mass graves at Kurulia Bridge, new and old jails of the district, Poirtola Badyabhumi.

Members of investigation team are Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Dhaka, Matiur Rahman, Shyamol Chowdhury and Probir Bhattacharya.

Team leader Matiur Rahman told journalists that they were investigating all allegations of crimes against humanity during the liberation war in 1971.

“Primarily, we have got the truth about the allegation against the accused,” he said.

He wouldn’t divulge the details for the sake of investigation.
