DHAKA: Detained BNP Standing Committee member and ex-minister Mirza Abbas could not come out of jail as the Supreme Court stayed for six weeks the High Court order granting him bail in a murder case.

Justice ABM Khairul Haque, the SC chamber judge, Tuesday passed the order in the Faruk Hossain killing case filed against him with Ramna Thana, in response to a government petition.

The court in its order, however, upheld the HC bail order in two separate cases filed against him with Motijheel and Paltan thanas on charges of obstructing police duties.

Earlier on August 24, the High Court granted six-month ad-interim bail to Mirza Abbas in the three cases in a bunch.
