DHAKA: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakib Uddin Ahmed on Monday claimed that the election commission is free from any political pressure.
The chief election commissioner came up with the assertion in a press briefing at his office.
In response to quarries over the criticisms and demand for removal of incumbent EC by the Main Opposition BNP and main ally of ruling grand-alliance Jatiya Party, he said, “Everyone has the rights to express opinion over any institution as per democratic norms.”
He added: “So, the criticisms and applauds are obvious and the democratic intuition like EC shouldn’t be stunned over it.”
The CEC said, “We ensured a level playing field for the free and fare national polls by talking with different schools and political parties.”
