DHAKA: Opposition BNP asked the government to cancel the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act terming it as suppress of freedom of speech.
Joint Secretary General of the party Ruhul Kabir Rizvi placed the party’s stance in a press conference on Tuesday.
Terming the act as politically motivated, The BNP leader said, “The government passed the law to repress opposition and people’s voice,”
He added: “The law was amended with a conspiracy to continue the regime without fairly handover and it’s a new phase of Bakshal.”
BNP senior leaders also attended the press briefing.
On August 19, the cabinet hastily approved the draft of the ICT (Amendment) Ordinance-2013 proposing to allow law enforcers to arrest any person without warrant and raise the highest punishment to 14 years.
