BNP against unilateral election

DHAKA: The Opposition BNP will not participate in any unilateral election for which ruling Awami League is taking preparation, besides the party will not allow holding such type of election too.

Acting secretary general of the opposition BNP Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir came up with the assertion in a conference marking the 6th Jail release day of Khaleda Zia and 35th founding anniversary of Jatiyobadi Mohila Dal in a city hotel on Friday.

Mirza Fakhrul said: “People of Bangladesh do not want to see the bad governance of Awami League once again. This is why people won’t allow them to seize power again.”

Election can be hold only by reinstating caretaker government through amending the Constitution, he added.

Urging the leaders and activists of BNP to stage movements, Fakhrul said, “We have no more time. We have to oust the government through movements.”

With president of Mohila Dol Nure Safa in the chair, among others, finance affairs secretary of BNP Abdus Salam, general secretary of Mohila Dol, convener of Dhaka district Mohila Dol Sabina Yasmin, president of metropolitan Mohila Dol Sultana Ahmed, general secretary Farida Yasmin, deputy general secretary Habiba Chowdhury Bithi addressed the meeting.
