DHAKA: The left-leaning parties have called half-day hartal for Monday in Sylhet protesting the attack of Chhatra League activists on the rally of Communist party of Bangladesh (CPB) and Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD).

Main opposition BNP has lent its support to the hartal. BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Razvi Ahmed confirmed the matter to banglanews on Sunday evening.

Earlier in the day at least 25 leaders and activists of CPB, BSD including Mujahidul Islam Selim and Khalekuzzaman were injured as Chhatra League activists attacked a rally in Sylhet.

Protesting the incident, CPB district unit called half-day hartal for Monday.
