BARGUNA: A local Awami League leader was strangulated to death by some unidentified miscreants in Barguna sadar upazila at early hours of Saturday (Oct 27).

The deceased, Khalilur Rahman, a resident of Chalitatoli village under Barguna sadar upazila, was vice president of the district unit of the ruling party.

Police recovered the body around 10am.

Lily Begum, wife of the slain leader, said some five veiled persons entered the room and tied her husband and herself, around 2:30am.

Afterwards, they fled away after choking him to death with a pillow, she added.  

Barguna Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Masuduzzaman told Banglanews that the incident might have taken place over rivalry.

Efforts are on to reveal reasons behind the murder and arrest the killers, he added.
