DHAKA: The ruling party’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) expressed deep shock at the death of Sonagazi madrasha student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
The 18-year-girl, who was set on fire on April 6, succumbed to her burn injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 9:30pm Wednesday (April 11).
In a mourning note, BCL President Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and General Secretary Golam Rabbani conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family and promised support until bringing the perpetrators to the book.
On April 6, a group of masked youths loyal to Feni’s Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasha principal Sirajuddoula took Nusrat to a rooftop and set her on fire in their bid to kill her.
The heinous incident occurred days after Nusrat’s mother on March 28 filed a case against Sirajuddoula on charge of harassing the girl sexually on March 27.
Nusrat was kept on life support at DMCH since April 8.
