DHAKA: Ruling Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, who had undergone bypass surgery at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore, will return home shortly as his health condition is better now.
Professor of cardiology department Dr Harisul Haque of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) told reporters after visiting Obaidul Quader in Singapore.
After returning home, Harisul Haque said there is a follow-up on his treatment on April 16. Then decide will be taken when he will return home. Currently, he is well enough for returning to the country.
“In order to determine the correct dosage of the drug or dose of drugs used in his treatment, it is necessary to stay in Singapore for some time, and that’s why the minister is now living in Singapore”, he added.
BSMM Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Kanak Kanti Barua University sent Professor Dr Harisul Huque to Singapore to inquire about the treatment of Obaidul Quader.
Harisul Haque went to Singapore on April 10 and returned home on April 14.
Obaidul Quader's heart is functioning normally. High blood pressure and diabetes are under control now. He is walking regularly (two times daily), added the physician.
Obaidul Quader, also the minister for road transport & bridges, underwent a bypass surgery at the same hospital on March 20.
Earlier on March 4, the minister who had been undergoing treatment at BSMMU Hospital since early Sunday (Mar 3) was taken to Singapore by an air ambulance as per advice of World renowned cardiologist Dr Devi Shetty.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader was admitted to the Critical Coronary Unit (CCU) of BSMMU Hospital after he felt breathing problems and chest pain.
He was diagnosed with blockages coronary arteries.
