DHAKA: Expelled leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Mojibur Rahman Monju has announced formation of a new political party Saturday (April 27).
The party will have no ties with any existing political parties including Jamaat, he said.
Monju read out a six-page written statement at a press briefing organized at Hotel 71 in Bijoynagar of the capital city, at noon.
"The political party we are going to form will be an acceptable and open platform for all, irrespective of religion, caste and gender," he said.
While asked whether the new party will be a reformed outfit of Jamaat, he said: "Not only Jamaat, people from all thoughts and religions have been invited here."
Monju said the party is being formed without any influence from the government.
Activities of the party will be started soon, he added.
Maj Gen (retd) Abdul Wahab Minar, Advocate Tajul Islam, Maolana Abdul Kader, Salahuddin Ahmed, Barrister Jubayer Ahmed Bhuiyan, Maolana Tajul Islam, Golam Faruq, Gowtam Das, Dr Kamal Uddin, Mostafa Nur and Nazmul Huda Aou, among others, took part in the press briefing.
