No bar to probe against Ruhul Amin Howlader

DHAKA:  The appellate division of the Supreme Court halted the High Court order that stayed the notice issued on Jatiya Party leader ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader to appear before Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

As a result, there is no further bar to investigation against Ruhul Amin Howlader, the lawyer of the ACC said.

The SC bench, headed by the Chief Justice, gave the order on Sunday (April 28) after hearing of the ACC appeal against the order of the High Court.

Earlier on April 3, High Court stayed for four weeks of the notice issued on Jatiya Party leader ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader to appear before Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice SM Kuddus Zaman passed the order along with the rule following a writ petition filed by Ruhul Amin challenging the legality of the notice on Wednesday (April 3).

ACC’s lawyer Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan said ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader does not need to appear before the commission on Thursday (April 4) following the stay order.

Advocate AM Amin Uddin moved for Ruhul Amin.

Earlier on March 28, ACC’s deputy director Sayeed Ahmed sent a notice to former general secretary of JP ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader for interrogation on corruption grounds.

He was supposed to appear before ACC’s Shegunbagicha office at 9:30 am on April 4.
