3 more BNP MPs-elect likely to take oath

DHAKA: Three more BNP leaders who were elected from Chapainawabganj-2, 3 and Brahmanbaria-2 constituencies in the national election are ready to take oath as members of the 11th Parliament.

They are Md Aminul Islam (Chapainawabganj-2), Md Harun-ur-Rashid (Chapainawabganj-3) and Ukil Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan (Brahmanbaria-2).

Of them, Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan told the media that he will not ignore the party's decision. But sources say he wants to take an oath.

Earlier, Zahidur Rahman Zahid, who was elected from Thakurgaon-3 constituency, was expelled from the party on Saturday (April 27) for taking oath on Thursday (April 25) ignoring party decision.

However, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir who was elected from Bogra-6 (known as Khaleda Zia’s constituency) will not swearing-in to the parliament.

Besides, Mosharraf Hossain, elected from Bogra-4 constituency, will not swearing-in abiding by the party's decision.

In these circumstances, BNP Standing Committee members held a meeting at BNP chairperson's Gulshan office for more than two hours on Sunday (April 28). Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman joined the meeting in Skype.

Party insiders said that the standing committee members and the acting chairman called the four elected MPs in the meeting. They all requested the three not to take oath. But in reply to the request, the MPs-elect told they are facing voters’ pressure to take oath.
