MYMENSINGH: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda on Monday (April 29) categorically said the responsibility of taking voters to the polling centers goes to the candidates, not the Election Commission (EC).
He acknowledged less voter turnout in the recently held elections due to BNP's election boycotting.
"The reason is the absence of a large political party," he said.
KM Nurul Huda was talking to the reporters after holding a views-exchanging meeting at Mymensingh Circuit House, organized by the district administration, ahead of Mymensingh City Corporation (MCC) election.
"Voting atmosphere is created and miking is conducted on behalf of the EC to encourage voters to go to polling centers. But, the responsibility of taking voters to the polling centers goes to the candidates," he said.
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used in the MCC polls, he added.
EC Additional Secretary Mokhlesur Rahman, National Identity Registration Wing (NID Wing) Director General Brig Gen Mohammad Saidul Islam, higher officials of Mymensingh district administration and law enforcement agencies attended the views-exchanging meeting chaired by Divisional Commissioner (DC, Acting) AHM Lokman.
