DHAKA: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the four BNP leaders took oath as MP following the direction of party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman.
He came up with the development while briefing media at the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in Dhaka on Monday (April 29) evening.
Asked if he would take oath, Fakhrul replied: “Time will say.”
Earlier in the afternoon, four BNP leaders – Md Aminul Islam from Chapainawabganj-2, Md Harun-ur-Rashid from Chapainawabganj-3, Mosharraf Hossian from Bogra-4 and Ukil Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan from Brahmanbaria-2 constituencies --took oath as members of the 11th Parliament.
Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, speaker of Jatiya Sangsad, administered the swearing-in ceremony.
After the oath ceremony, Aminul Islam told reporters that they took oath as per the party's decision.
On April 25, BNP leader Jahidur Rahman, who was elected from Thakurgaon-3 constituency, took oath as member of the 11th parliament ignoring the party decision.
Besides, two Gono Forum MPs --Mokabbir Khan and Sultan Mohammad Mansur --took oath.
