SANGSAD BHABAN: As BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir failed to take his oath within the stipulated time, his seat Bogra-6 fell vacant.
The Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury made the announcement during JS session on Tuesday (April 30).
The speaker said, “The Bogura-6 constituency fell vacant as Fakhrul failed to take his oath within the 90 days.”
The Election Commission (EC) will rearrange voting at the electoral area as the seat has fallen vacant.
Regarding oath, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “Rumors have surfaced that I sought time to take oath as an MP from Bogra-6 constituency. Actually, I did not send any letters to the speaker nor did I seek time. This is also our party decision. It’s our strategy.”
According to the Article 67 of the constitution, a member of Parliament shall vacate his seat if fails to make oath or affirm to do so within the 90 days from the date of the first sitting of parliament after his election.
