Fakhrul urges people to oust ‘corrupt’ government

DHAKA: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged the people to be united with the spirit of the May Day in realizing their rights by ousting the ‘corrupt’ government.

He was inaugurating a rally organized by Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal in front of BNP’s Naya Paltan central office in city around 10:30am Wednesday (MAY 1).

He said: “Workers lost their rights today as corrupt government snatched the fate of the people to make huge wealth.”

“The May Day is the day for realizing the rights. The government looted the right to vote by rigging. Besides, it also looted the right to have rice. Today, unity among the working people is vital to survive. We have to go for movement to bring the rights back,” he added.

He said, today is a great day. But unfortunately, we do not have the dignity of workers in Bangladesh. As there is no fair wages for the workers, they live in inhumane conditions.

The price of the commodity continues to rise. Rice price, house rent, electricity bill are increasing. This government has been hiking prices of these products to legitimize their corruption. They are looting the share market, banks and huge in the name of mega project, Fakhrul added.

He also demanded the unconditional release of the Party chairperson Khaleda Zia.

Labor Party president Anwar Hossain chaired the rally which was addressed, among others, by BNP’s senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and labor party general secretary Nurul Islam Khan Nasim.

Later, a rally started and ended at Naya Paltan after parading Shantinagar Crossing. The workers were seen chanting slogans for the release of Khaleda Zia while carrying different types of banners, festoons and placards.
