MYMENSINGH: The first ever elections to Mymensingh City Corporation (MCC) to be held on Sunday (May 5).
The voting will start at 8am and continue till 4pm, without any break.
A total of 22 platoons of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) and 33 mobile teams of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will carry out surveillance, in a bid to ensure safety.
A total of 312 candidates are vying for the councillor posts.
Of them, 70 are vying for the reserved posts for women.
Sources said that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used in 127 polling centers of 33 wards.
As many as 2,96,938 voters are expected to exercise their franchise.
Apart from executive and additional magistrates in each ward, 16 judicial magistrates will remain employed in the polling ground, vowing to control any untoward incident.
Returning Officer (RO) and Regional Election Officer Md Alimuzzaman confirmed the matter to Banglanews Saturday (May 4).
However, Awami League nominated candidate Ekramul Haque Titu was elected uncontested as the first MCC mayor.
The announcement will come out in a gazette after holding Sunday's elections to councillor posts.
