MYMENSINGH: Voters have started casting their ballots in the first ever election to Mymensingh City Corporation (MCC) on Sunday (May 5).
The voting has begun at 8am and will continue till 4pm, without any break.
Teams of law enforcement agencies including police, Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB), Armed Police Battalion (APBn) and Ansar-VDP have been employed, in a bid to ensure safe polling environment.
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are being used in 127 polling centers of 33 wards.
As many as 2,96,934 voters are expected to exercise their franchise.
A total of 312 candidates are vying for the councillor posts. Of them, 70 are vying for the reserved posts for women.
Earlier, Awami League nominated candidate Ekramul Haque Titu was elected uncontested as the first MCC mayor.
