DHAKA: Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad appointed his younger brother also party cochairman GM Quader as the acting chairman of the party.

HM Ershad made the announcement at a press briefing held at his President Park residence in Baridhara around 11pm Saturday (May 4). 

GM Quader has been handed over the charge as the JP chief's illness is causing hamper to party activities.
 
Earlier, on January 1, HM Ershad made a declaration that GM Quader will act as party cochairman in his absence.

But, on the night of March 22, he removed GM Quader from the posts of cochairman and deputy leader of the opposition at the parliament too.

HM Ershad then said GM Quader had failed to direct the party.
