DHAKA: Citing the adverse impacts of autocracy, Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain said the country should be freed from this ruling system.
"Freedom of expression and personal life, apart from the rule of law, don't exist in autocracy," he said.
Dr Kamal Hossain was addressing a meeting of Gono Forum's reformed central committee, at its central office in Dhaka Tuesday (May 7) noon.
"Corruption, groupization and looting hinder the trend of progress, devour all the state organizations including economy and destroy the society and civilization," he added.
People are owner of the country. Therefore, sound politics should be established through uniting the people, he added.
Dr Kamal Hossain further stressed that national unity should be forged against autocracy.
However, Gono Forum's newly elected General Secretary Dr Reza Kibria, Executive President Prof Dr Abu Sayeed, Advocate Subrata Chowdhury and Presidium Member Mokabbir Khan MP, among others, took part in the meeting.
