BANDARBAN: District unit Awami League observed a half-day hartal in peaceful manner protesting the murder of its leader and demanding exemplary punishment of killers.
Due to the hartal enforced by AL men no public transport is plying in the internal roads of the district from 6:00am to 12:00 noon today. No long-route buses entered or left the district town.
After 12 noon, business establishments opened and vehicle plying started in the internal roads.
Bandarban district Awami League General Secretary Islam Baby said to Banglanews, the program of the shutdown ended peacefully.
He demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in the murder of fellow leader.
Earlier on May 22, terrorists allegedly kidnapped Awami League leader from a guest house in Uzi Headman para in Sadar upazila.
Later on Saturday (may 25), the body of Chaw Thowai Mong Marma, 53, former vice president of AL’s Bandarban town unit, was found in a hilly remote area of Kuhalong union in Sadar upazila.
