Bogura-6 by polls: 8 candidates’ nomination valid

BOGURA: The returning officer of Bogura has declared the nomination papers of eight candidates out of 11 aspirants for the by-elections in Bogura-6 (Sadar) constituency, slated for June 24.

But one of the three candidates of BNP has been rejected.

Bogura Sadar Upazila Election Officer SM Zakir Hossain confirmed this information to Banglanews on Monday (May 27).

Earlier, the by-election returning officer and Senior District Election Officer of Bogra-6 (Sadar) constituency Mahbub Alam Shah with the presence of his representative, declared the nomination papers of eight candidates valid.

The valid candidates are - Awami League nominated SMT Zaman Niketta, BNP nominated Golam Mohammad Siraj, Rezaul Karim Badshah of BNP, Jatiya Party nominated Nurul Islam Omar, Mansur Rahman of Bangladesh Congress, Rafiqul Islam of Bangladesh Muslim League, Independent candidate Former General Secretary of Bogra District Motor Workers Union Syed Kabir Ahmed Mithu and businessman Minhaz.

The parliamentary seat was declared vacant on April 30 as BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir did not take oath as Member of Parliament after being elected from the constituency in the December-30 general election.

According to the by-poll schedule, the deadline for submission of nomination paper is May 23, while the date for scrutinising nomination paper is May 27 and the last date for the withdrawal of candidature is June 3.
