After long time, Eid journey becomes comfortable: Quader

DHAKA: Road transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said Eid holidaymakers have experienced comfortable journey on roads and highways after a long time.

He said the government is trying to make return journey safe and comfortable too after celebrating Eid with their dears and nears. Not only Eid, the journey on roads and highways will be as comfortable throughout the year.

“It is only four hours to go from Dhaka to Chittagong,” Obaidul Quader was talking to reporters at meeting room at the Road Transport and Highways Department at Secretariat on Monday (June 3).

During his visit to the bus terminal, he observed holidaymakers are facing any trouble during their Eid journey as bus owners are demanding extra fare.

When asked, the owners told that they had to take passengers for holidaymakers, but they would return empty. That's why we said that you earn a lot throughout the year. You have to low profit during Eid.

Referring to the lack of discipline in the transport sector, the minister said, there is no discipline in the roads and transportation sectors. Now our biggest challenge is to bring discipline in this sector. If we can do this, then the communication system will be good.

The Road Transport and Bridges minister said that Metro Rail will be fully operational by 2021. Traffic congestion is not possible to ease by only infrastructural changes. Therefore, there is a need to change the mindset of people.

“As per the government plans if six projects are implemented by 2030, then hopefully it will be possible to stop the traffic congestion completely from Dhaka”, he added.
