Govt continues diplomatic efforts to resolve Rohingya crisis: Quader Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said the government is continuing diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing Rohingya crisis.

Drawing attention of the international community, he raised a question that how is it possible for Bangladesh to bear the burden of additional 11 lakh Rohingya people.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, made the remarks at a view-exchange meeting with officials of BRTA and BRTC in Cumilla zone on Tuesday.

The minister joined the meeting through video conferencing from her official residence in Dhaka.

He said: “The government has continued the diplomatic efforts to resolve the Rohingya crisis. I am urging the international community to put pressure on Myanmar for repatriating their citizens.”

“Apart from persistent diplomatic efforts, we are also trying to rehabilitate a portion of the Rohingya community to Bhasan Char to ease pressure. Because this issue created serious negative impact on our environment, neighborhood and tourism sector,” he said.

The world has lauded Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her generosity in sheltering hundreds of thousands of Rohingyas. However, Bangladesh cannot bear this burden for long and I am urging the world community, including the United Nations, to come forward with resolution, the minister added.
