RUCSU polls: Shibir wins VP, AGS; Anti-Dominance Unity takes GS

The Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed “Combined Students’ Alliance” has clinched victory in the vice president (VP) and assistant general secretary (AGS) posts, while the “Anti-Dominance Unity” panel secured the general secretary (GS) position in the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (Rucsu) election.

After the completion of vote counting, Chief Election Commissioner Professor F. Nazrul Islam officially announced the results at around 8:30am from the Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium on Friday (October 17).

Mostakur Rahman Zahid, the VP candidate from the Shibir-backed panel, won by a landslide with 12,684 votes, defeating Sheikh Nur Uddin Abir of the Chhatra Dal-backed “United New Generation” panel, who received 3,397 votes.

In the GS race, Salahuddin Ammar from the “Anti-Dominance Unity” panel emerged victorious with 11,118 votes, surpassing Fahim Reza of the Shibir-backed panel, who obtained 5,727 votes.

The AGS post also went to the Shibir-backed panel, as SM Salman Sabbir won with 6,971 votes, defeating Jahin Biswas Esha of the Chhatra Dal-backed panel, who garnered 5,951 votes.

Voting for the Rucsu election was held on Thursday (October 16) in a festive and peaceful atmosphere, with no major untoward incidents reported.
