DHAKA: The third BFF-SPSB Children Science Congress was held with much enthusiasm at National Museum of Science and Technology in city’s Agargaon area on August 21-22.

This year’s Congress was organized by Bangladesh Freedom Foundation (BFF) and Society for the Popularization of Bangladesh (SPSB).

Building Laboratories in educational institutions with access to all students and appointing skilled science teachers were accepted unanimously as Congress resolution this year by young scientists as well as scientists present in the panel.

Presided over by Professor Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), noted zoologist and also former chief scientist of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission Dr Rezaur Rahman, Dr Yeasmeen Hoq, Professor of SUST, Dr Arshad Chowdhury, Associate Professor at NSU, Dr Nova Ahmed, Assistant Professor at NSU and Abdus Samad Mondal, Principal of Rajshahi Teachers’ Training College were present in the Joint Congress panel on Saturday.

They advised the young scientists to research following the scientific methodology and to carry on research work.

Muhammad Zafar Iqbal said, to solve a problem, they need to think about and analyze the problem all the time - even in dreams.

Later, best papers, posters and projects among the presented were awarded in the closing ceremony, attended by science and technology minister Yeafes Osman.

In his speech, he reminded that the youngsters of Bangladesh are showing their skills and abilities in the field of cricket, mathematics and ICT.

He also hoped that young scientists would make Bangladesh proud with their outstanding works.

BFF Executive Director Sazzadur Rahman Chowdhury, SPSB General Secretary Dr Farseem Mannan Mohammedy, Director General of National Museum of Science and Technology Swapan Kumar Roy also addressed the function.

The ceremony was moderated by Munir Hasan, vice-president of SPSB.

Sixty six young scientists were awarded in Primary, Junior and Senior categories for presenting scientific papers, posters and projects.

It should be mentioned that 456 young scientists presented 106 projects, 56 papers and 48 posters in this year’s Congress.

Among them, Paper of the Congress was awarded to Barnik Roy Brata from Scholars International School and College, Dinajpur for his paper on using the extracts of flowers and fruits as growth controllers of crops, vegetables and weeds.

Poster of the Congress was awarded to Shahiba Noshin from Dinajpur Government College and Samin Yeasar from Dinajpur Zilla School for their work on the effects of the surroundings on the lifestyle of the ants and Project of the Congress to Totinee Sarkar from Muminunnisa Government Women’s College for making an injection actuator for non trained health personnel and personal use.

Forty students from all the participants of Congress will be invited to the 3rd Jagadish Chandra Bose Science Camp.

Congress partner was National Museum of Science and Technology and knowledge partner was Daffodil International University.
