IU closed over BCL infighting

KUSHTIA (Islamic University): The authorities of Islamic University (IU) of Kushtia district closed the varsity on Saturday as two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) locked into a clash.

The IU administration came up with the decision after holding a meeting around 2:00pm.

The varsity authorities said the institution will open after the winter vacation on January 6.

Earlier in the day, a person was reportedly injured as two groups of BCL traded bullets on IU campus.

Witnesses said the supporters of IU unit BCL president Saiful Islam and vice-president Mizanur Rahman Mizu locked into a clash on December 17 (Thursday) over the board of appointment of new teachers, leaving a supporter of Mizu group injured.

On Saturday, the supporters of Mizanur Rahman Mizu brought out a protest procession on the campus when the supporters of Saiful Islam chased them.

Additional police members have been deployed on the campus, reported banglanews correspondent.
