Ex-director of Suhrawardy hospital dies from coronavirus

DHAKA: Professor AKM Mujibur Rahman, former director of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital (SSMCH), died from coronavirus (Covid-19) infection in a city hospital on Tuesday morning.

Mujibur Rahman breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) around 5:30am.

Publicity and publication secretary of Foundation for Doctors Safety Rights and Responsibilities (FDSR) Dr Shahed Imran confirmed the news.

Mujibur Rahman was admitted to CMH in a critical condition on June 2 after infecting with Covid-19. Later, he was shifted to ICU as his condition remained unchanged.

The renowned medical expert was working as the head of the Department of Medicine at Care Medical College, Dhaka. Earlier, he was the principal of Savar Enam Medical College.

With this, the country has confirmed total 36 deaths of physicians from coronavirus (Covid-19) so far, Dr Shahed Imran added.
