141 HIV deaths, 658 cases this year in Bangladesh 

A total of 141 patients have died from the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and some 658 new Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) cases have been detected in Bangladesh in 2020.

Besides, the death toll from the disease in Bangladesh has reached to 1,383.

Currently there are more than 14,000 HIV-infected patients in country. However, only 8,033 of them have come under treatment so far. 

Of the newly infected 658 HIV patients, 76 percent are males, 21 percent females and only three percent are transgenders. 

Moreover, among the new cases, 124 patients are Rohingyas.

TB and AIDS/STD Programme Line Director Shamiul Islam revealed the information at a programme of the Directorate General of Health Services marking "World AIDS Day 2020" in the capital's Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, organised by the Health Ministry on Tuesday.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque attended the programme as chief guest while DGHS DG ABM Khurshid Alam chaired it.
