BNP-AL clash injures 26 in Comilla

COMILLA: At least 26 people, including Officer-in-Charge of Burichong police station, were injured in a fierce clash between Awami League and BNP in Moddhya Bazar area of Burichong upazila in the district on Wednesday.

The injured Officer-in-Charge Monirul Islam and four other policemen were rushed to a local hospital.

Local sources said, BNP and Awami League locked into a fierce clash with sharp weapons and firearms when both party initiated to bring out processions during the last day of 18-party called nationwide hartal, leaving 20 activists and 6 policemen injured.

Al least 20 cocktails were blasted during the two hour long clash and police fired 50 rounds of rubber bullets and 12 tear shells to thwart the clash.

Burichong police station Inspector Kamruzzaman Sikder told banglanews that additional police force have been deployed in the area to avert further violence.
