DHAKA: The hearing of three writ petitions filed with the High Court (HC), challenging the legality of cabinet members staying in power even after resigning is set to be held on Monday.
An HC bench comprising Justice Mirza Hossain Haider and Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam fixed the date on Sunday.
A journalist and two lawyers of the Supreme Court filed the writ petitions seeking directives of the HC over the issue respectively on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
The petitions plead the HC to issue rule on why the cabinet led by Sheikh Hasina would not be declared as vacant and why the cabinet members would not be ordered to refrain from government tasks till the hearing of the writ is completed.
Some 49 cabinet members along with cabinet and home secretaries were made defendants in the writ petitions.
